Mobile Power System for Lidar

Victron Energy System for Mobile Wind Measurement

At Elektro Štumpfl, we designed and installed a reliable mobile power system, based on Victron Energy components.

The project was completed at the end of May, when our colleague Gregor installed an electrical system in a trailer to power a Lidar system used for measuring wind speed.

For a mobile application like this, a reliable power supply is essential. The measurement equipment must have stable power available even at locations without access to conventional electrical infrastructure.

To provide the required power, we integrated several Victron Energy components into a customised energy system designed for mobile use.

The basic configuration included:

  • 1 × MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35/32 230V
  • 1 × LiFePO4 51.2V/100Ah NG battery
  • 1 × Cerbo GX
  • 1 × Orion Tr Smart 48/12 – 20A
  • 1 × VE.Bus BMS NG
  • 1 × Phoenix Inverter 12/1200 VE.Direct

The customer later upgraded the system with two additional MPPT solar charge controllers.

The key challenge in this project was to provide reliable and efficient power for the measurement equipment inside a mobile trailer. The system combines energy storage, power conversion, communication and system monitoring in one integrated solution.

Wind measurement equipment needs to operate reliably regardless of location and operating conditions. For this type of application, a well-designed electrical system is therefore just as important as the measurement equipment itself – because the wind doesn't wait for anyone.
